Stage 04 of 9

Form

How should it look and hold together?

Form is not decoration — it is the argument made visible. Composition, colour, and space should reinforce what the work means. Weak form undoes strong concept.

Prompts to sit with

  • 01Grid, radial, fragmented, or single figure — which structure carries the idea?
  • 02What is the colour temperature of the concept? Which palette obeys that?
  • 03Is depth part of the meaning, or should the surface stay flat and frontal?
  • 04What does the composition tell the eye to do first?

Small practices

  • Thumbnail 10 compositions at postcard size before committing.
  • Restrict to 3 colours as a first pass — add more only when needed.
  • Look at your thumbnails upside down; the strongest still reads.
